EP 43 - Meeting Madness
When it comes to meetings, LESS is more...
Transcript
Managers now average 23 hours a week in meetings, up from 10 hours in the 1960s. Companies are trying to promote a more collaborative culture, but it’s actually hurting employee productivity.
So, when it comes to meetings - “less is more!”
• Less meetings;
• Less people attending;
• And less time in the meeting.
Ted-Talks are limited to 18-minutes, because that’s the outer limit of an adult's attention span; and the ideal meeting size is between 5 to 8 participants.
• So cut every meeting in half;
• Make weekly meetings bi-weekly;
• Only invite people that really need to be there;
• Make some meetings optional;
• And never call a meeting that can be done through chat.
If you do that, the meetings you conduct will be much more productive; people will know they’re important; and who knows? They may even look forward to them!
